Samer lectures at Al-Faisal University in Riyadh
The focus of the lecture given on 18 November 2014 to staff and student at the University's Department of Architecture was on learning from European and Latin American cities when it comes to transforming perceptions of sustainability of built environment in the global cities of the Gulf. The message Samer was communicating to his Saudi audience was that although there is a common perception among planners that integration of the ‘good’ planning of smart growth and new urbanism is the basis for city/community sustainability, there is also a growing awareness that the real implications of sustainability for cities, economies, and communities has yet to be conceptualised and developed, that it is a work in progress.
